Army Wife Encourages Other Spouses To Consider the El Paso Police Force
Many military spouses find it difficult to find employment when moving to a new duty station. Moving to El Paso is no different. Once area that is sometimes overlooked is being a police officer
As a military spouse I have been fortunate to have found a career that has seen me through many personal challenges.  As a military spouse of 13 ½ years, I can share that being a part of this unique famiy can be rewarding just as much as it can be challenging.

Military wives are taught right away to become self-sufficient and quick on our feet, leaving very little time for self-pity, procrastination and/or confusion.  I have considered military families as an on-the-move, on-the-go kind of family - a family that can make major moves at any given minute.  Being a military wife, we are taught to deal with change quicker than the normal family wife, with little or no warning.  We are  "get-it-done"  women.

When I decided to become a police officer 2 ½ years ago, I must admit that it didn’t come without great concern and question from my husband, the active duty soldier who felt that our family was making it just fine without me having to obtain employment outside of the home.

We as women in general are taught that our home comes first and so stepping out of that comfort was not very “comfortable”.  I don’t regret my decision to become a police officer.  It has allowed me independence which as a military spouse (grown woman), am identified by the military as a ‘dependent’, a word which reflects that I am depended upon another.

One of the hardest things I find about being a military spouse is that no duty station remains home forever.  It is very hard to adapt so freely to a new home and to find a new job.  One of the common hardships of a military spouse when moving to a new duty station is the lack of available jobs.  Being an officer allows for you to take skills and experiences with you...on your next PCS move that will make you marketable amongst the competing world of a being a military wife...in the process of trying to find employment.

If you are a military spouse in search of employment, consider the El Paso Police Department.
